Mario 3D Game Test: An Unfinished Fan-Made Platformer Demo
Mario 3D Game Test is a fascinating, albeit incomplete, fan-created project that attempts to recreate the feel of a classic 3D Mario platformer inside Scratch. Please note: the developer has ceased development on this game to focus on school, so it is presented here as a permanent tech demo and a piece of creative history rather than a full game.
Controls & Available Gameplay
The foundational controls are fully implemented for testing purposes:
- Movement: Use the Arrow Keys to run in all directions.
- Jump: Press the Spacebar to leap over obstacles and onto enemies.
- Interface: Use your mouse to click interactive elements, such as the help menu (the ‘?’ box in the top-right corner).
As a test build, the scope is limited. You can
explore the 3D environment, enter the interactive Pipe Store, play in Level 1, collect one coin, and defeat a Goomba by jumping on it. There is no overarching story or goal in this version.
Project Background & Assets
This is a non-commercial tribute project built using edited assets from the Scratch community and classic Nintendo sprites. Full credit is given to the original creators: terrain from Games Freak's "Monster Dash," character sprites ripped by Glukom and William777, and various sourced images for the Pipe Store. The project includes a clear disclaimer that no copyright infringement is intended, respecting the original intellectual property of Nintendo.
While this demo won't receive further updates, it serves as an interesting example of 3D game design in Scratch and a testament to the creative efforts of its fan developer. It's a unique opportunity to try out the basic mechanics of what could have been a larger fan-made adventure.
